Description
KPV is a tripeptide (Lysine-Proline-Valine) derived from the C-terminal end of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH). While alpha-MSH has potent anti-inflammatory effects, it also causes skin darkening through melanocortin receptor activation. KPV retains the powerful anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties of alpha-MSH but does not activate melanocortin receptors responsible for pigmentation changes. It works by inhibiting inflammatory pathways, particularly NF-kB activation and pro-inflammatory cytokine production, making it a highly targeted anti-inflammatory peptide with particular relevance to gut health research.
Potential Benefits
Research Notes
Research published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry and PLoS ONE demonstrates KPV's ability to enter intestinal epithelial cells and directly inhibit NF-kB activation and inflammatory cytokine production. Studies in colitis models show significant reduction in inflammation markers and improved mucosal healing. KPV's unique separation of anti-inflammatory and melanogenic activities makes it a valuable tool for targeted inflammation research.
